EU expects continuation of Belgrade-Priština talks

Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert has stated that the EU expects both Belgrade and Priština to express readiness to continue the dialogue.

BELGRADE Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert has stated that the EU expects both Belgrade and Pristina to express readiness to continue the dialogue. “We want to take the dialogue to a political level, to hear from top political representatives directly that they are ready to get involved and after that we can define next steps in the process,” he said at an international conference dubbed “Media and Equality” in Belgrade. EU expects continuation of Belgrade-Pristina talks When asked whether he expected Serbian PM Ivica Dacic, who met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in Brussels on Friday, to meet with Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci, Degert said that it was too soon to answer that question. Serbian parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic said that Serbia had shown readiness to continue the dialogue with Pristina. “Serbia has shown that it is serious in its efforts to start solving problems that have been piling up, primarily problems of Serbs who live in Kosovo and Metohija and to continue the negotiations,” he stressed. According to Stefanovic, the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina talks is a condition for Serbia’s further progress on the EU pathway. When asked whether he expected Serbian PM Ivica Dačić, who met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in Brussels on Friday, to meet with Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci, Degert said that it was too soon to answer that question.

Serbian parliament Speaker Nebojša Stefanović said that Serbia had shown readiness to continue the dialogue with Priština.

“Serbia has shown that it is serious in its efforts to start solving problems that have been piling up, primarily problems of Serbs who live in Kosovo and Metohija and to continue the negotiations,” he stressed.

According to Stefanović, the continuation of the Belgrade-Priština talks is a condition for Serbia’s further progress on the EU pathway.
