BELGRADE It is realistic and feasible for Serbia to get a date for the start of EU accession talks in June, says Faculty of Political Sciences professor Tanja Miscevic. She said that citizens needed to realize that European values were their values and that “we need to start doing and thinking European”. “Serbia can get date for EU talks in June” Miscevic believes that the European Commission’s report on Serbia’s progress will not be a surprise for all those who follow the country’s EU integration process. She added that it was a true evaluation of the progress made in the previous year. The professor noted that the report that will be presented on October 10 should not be viewed as either positive or negative but rather as a recommendation for what should be done and improved in the following year. Miscevic said that the continuation of the dialogue with Pristina and implementation of agreements that had been reached were political preconditions for the obtaining of the date for the start of the EU talks. “I think that it is very important to understand how important it is for Serbia to get a date for the beginning of the negotiations and for the negotiations to start because it is a point of no return, there will only be a continuation of deeper and more comprehensive reforms. It is necessary primarily for the government to react pro-actively in that sense,” she explained. Commenting on Germany’s seven conditions, Miscevic said that the conditions had existed before, in one way or another, and that many of them were in a decision of the Council of Ministers. “What is the problem is the fact that there is no general consensus on them in the EU, so we have already heard, and we will hear, that new conditions await us. This is confusing both the political elite and citizens and of course it is not good for the entire EU integration process,” she stressed. She is convinced that neither the EU nor its member states will ask Serbia to recognize Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence. According to her, “relaxation of relations will be good for all of us, especially for Serbs who live in Kosovo. Tanjug
