BELGRADE Milovan Drecun said on Wednesday that the government will not retreat from agreements that the previous government "signed and accepted" in the Kosovo dialogue. The chairman of the Serbian Parliamentary Committee on Kosovo and Metohija added, however, that as the government "believes that many aspects of the deals are not good for Serbia's interests, it will try to correct and change them". Serbia "will try to amend parts of agreement" “We do not have the maneuvering space to say that the agreements are not in the interest of the state and that we do not accept them. This would be irresponsible, and no country can do something like that,” Drecun, a member of the Serb Progressive Party (SNS), told reporters in the Serbian parliament. “All international agreements are binding regardless of the change of authorities, but we will try to correct the most unfavorable provisions of these agreements, and that is the only thing that this government can do,” he said. “The presence of customs officers installed by Pristina is problematic, as they operate in the name of the self-declared state of Kosovo,” Drecun said, adding that Belgrade will have to make much effort to persuade Serbs in the north to accept joint checkpoints. Drecun announced that the platform for Kosovo and Metohija will probably be presented to the public soon, adding that it would be immoral to request from Serbia to send any of its officials to the negotiating table with Kosovo Albanian Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, considering that he is "justifiably suspected of committing most serious crimes".
