The new U.S. ambassador to Serbia, Michael Kirby, will arrive in Belgrade on Sept. 18, the U.S. embassy confirmed to the Beta news agency on Monday.

Kirby will assume his new role, having left his previous position as principal U.S. deputy secretary of state for consular affairs. He was the U.S. ambassador to Moldova between 2006 and 2008, and before this he was the consul general in South Korea as well as Poland - in Warsaw and Krakow. Kirby has also served in Germany, Denmark, Tanzania and Guyana. In Washington, he was the director of the State Department's Office of Intelligence Coordination, and dealt with the Caribbean region at the start of his career.
