BELGRADE Democratic Party (DS) Main Board session started in Belgrade around 13:00 CET on Saturday. The DS leadership should decide at the meeting about a date and an election system of a new DS leader. DS Main Board meeting underway in Belgrade DS leader Boris Tadic is currently presenting a report on the party’s work in the previous period and Main Board members would then discuss it. Once Tadic has presented the report, the session will be closed to public. The DS leader stressed at the beginning of the speech that the DS needed changes. He added that he thought that the Democrats should be in the opposition immediately after the May election but that others did not agree. “I was ready then to step down as a DS leader. However, the party Presidency wanted me to stay and lead the negotiations on the forming of the government,” Tadic stressed. “I am not saying that the DS is in danger but I am saying that there is a risk that it could be in danger,” he explained. The DS leader said that he bore the biggest responsibility for the DS’ results but that he was not the only one who was responsible. Tadic said earlier that his deputy Dragan Djilas had questioned his authority as a party leader. (Tanjug, file) B92
