BELGRADE Serbia’s President Tomislav Nikolic has stated that Serbia will respect the Constitution on its EU pathway. “Serbia will seek to peacefully and through dialogue, in keeping with the Constitution and within its territorial integrity and sovereignty, become an equal member of the European community of nations,” he said in a conversation with the President of the British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce Paul Judge. President pledges respect of Constitution on EU pathway Nikolic pointed to Serbia's commitment to the European pathway, adding that it would surely have both large and small challenges on the way, a statement from his office said. The president said that the cooperation between Serbia and Great Britain in the economy was of vital importance for the country and added that Serbia would create conditions for attracting investments, including simplification of regulations, eradication of corruption and tax benefits. “Serbia has the potential, hardworking and educated people, natural resources and great confidence in Great Britain as an investor,” Nikolic noted. He added that Serbia appreciated the efforts made by Judge to improve relations between the two countries. Judge said that trade between Serbia and Great Britain of GBP 100mn was not small but far below the economic power of the two countries. “United Kingdom welcomes the reforms being implemented in Serbia,” he stressed, adding that it was a positive signal to investors. Judge said that his country was mostly interested in the energy, mining, agriculture and pharmaceutical industries, adding that there were a number of projects dealing with the promotion of food production, reducing waste in food production and the possibility of cooperation in the field of manufacturing brands for major retail chains, such as Tesco.
