Serbian Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić stated ahead of his visit to Brussels that Serbia "wishes to continue its EU path".

BELGRADE Serbian Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated ahead of his visit to Brussels that Serbia "wishes to continue its EU path". However, according to Dacic, "the EU should be fair when it comes to the conditions it is imposing". PM prepares for Brussels trip, says Serbia "on EU path" This means that there will be no new conditions for granting Serbia the date for EU accession talks, Dacic told reporters in Belgrade. During his stay in Brussels, Dacic will have seven meetings, and he will first meet with President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy, then with President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz, EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom, Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger and Director of the EU Enlargement Directorate Stefano Sannino. Dacic will also meet with the Belgian interior minister and the foreign minister. This will be Dacic's the first visit to the EU seat since his appointment as the prime minister, and he said that he wanted to go to Brussels sooner but everyone was on holiday. “This will be our first meeting and I will inform the officials about the government priorities and the reforms which Serbia should implement in the next period, as well as the activities the government is implementing aimed at the preparation of the package of economic and social measures,” he explained. Dacic said that political stability is very important for Serbia and that Belgrade is ready for the continuation of the dialogue with Pristina. He also underscored that Belgrade will do everything to get the date for the initiation of the talks with Pristina set but this does not imply that something that is not in Serbia's national interest would be accepted. According to Dacic, the budget deficit in the first six months of the year is now almost double relative to the planned sum. In order for the country to survive and remains able to pay salaries and pensions, at least EUR 2 to 2.5 billion need to be raised, Dacic said and added that this will be one of the topics of the talks in Brussels.
