BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has promised the Serbian Olympic athletes that the preparations for the next Olympic cycle "start on Tuesday". He added that they are Serbia's most valuable possession and that they proved it by competing with the world. President welcomes home Serbia's Olympic athletes Nikolic addressed the Serbian Olympic team once they landed at the Belgrade airport, stating he did it on behalf of all those who shared in their joy, sorrow and concern and who loved them. "These girls and boys are most valuable. They are more valuable than us, and not just tonight. They achieved success in competing with the entire world and Serbia will learn from them," Nikolic stressed, calling on all those whose means were more than average to invest their extra money in sport so everyone would have a lot more to be happy about in the future. "Thank you. In the most difficult of conditions, you have done what people who are far richer, luckier and have more organized lives could not do and I wish that you be an example, for our children to look up to you so that some day you might have not 4, but 40 medals, although, believe me, these 4 are as dear as though there were 40," Nikolic noted. "Thank you on behalf of all of us who watched it and shared in your happiness and sorrow. All the best," the president stated. The members of the team were greeted by their families and friends, as well as many reporters and fans who came to congratulate them on their success at the Olympic Games in London. The Serbian team came back from London with four medals. Milica Mandic won gold in taekwondo, Ivana Maksimovic took silver in shooting, the water polo team came back with bronze and Andrija Zlatic also won bronze in shooting. A welcome ceremony will be organized on Tuesday in front of the Belgrade City Assembly to celebrate the success of the Serbian athletes. (Tanjug) Tanjug
