BELGRADE UNMIK Farid Zarif on Tuesday heard Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic's proposal for the active involvement of the UN in the Kosovo negotiations. This is according to a statement from the president's office, carried by the Beta news agency. UNMIK chief speaks with Serbian president The statement said that Zarif had favored peace and security in all of Kosovo, stressing that no unilateral actions would be tolerated. The two officials also positively assessed UNMIK's role in Kosovo and Metohija and stressed that the Belgrade-Pristina dialog needs to be taken to a higher level, and that security and safety also needed to be improved. Given the specific nature of Kosovo's problems, Nikolic noted that the right approach to finding solutions there was necessary, while ensuring that U.N. resolution 1244 was upheld. Nikolic reiterated that he would never recognize Kosovo, adding that he would soon release a plan which he expected would be approved by all of the relevant political and other factors involved in searching for a solution.
