The Serbian government on Friday decided to appoint Nebojša Rodić as the new director of the Security-Information Agency (BIA), it has been confirmed.

BELGRADE The Serbian government on Friday decided to appoint Nebojsa Rodic as the new director of the Security-Information Agency (BIA), it has been confirmed. Rodic will assume his new duties after having served as the general secretary of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic. Government appoints new chief of intelligence agency In 1996 and 1997, Rodic was the secretary of the State Election Commission (RIK), when then opposition parties accused this institution of organizing election fraud. Rodic stepped down from that position to later work at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During the 1990s, he was also employed for a time by the Serbian parliament. The media describe Rodic as a "man of confidence" of the new Serbian president, and point out as interesting the fact that Rodic and Sasa Vujadinovic who so far held the office as the BIA director worked together as members of the Republic Electoral Commission in the 2000 elections. Rodic is an attorney with considerable experience, Nikolic said explaining why Rodic was appointed as BIA chief, and expressed the belief that he would perform the office exceptionally well. Rodic is the fifth BIA director. Since it was established in August 2002, BIA was headed by Andreja Savic, Misa Milicevic (from January 2003 to March 2004), Rade Bulatovic (until July 2008), and Sasa Vukadinovic. During the government session on Friday, Aleksandar Vulin and Sulejman Ugljanin were also officially appointed as directors of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija and the Office for Sustainable Development of Underdeveloped Areas.
