Fugitive tycoon "will be arrested if he returns to Serbia”

SREMSKA KAMENICA, BELGRADE Anybody who tries to enter Serbia and there is a warrant for their arrest, will be arrested, including Bogoljub Karic, says Interior Minister Ivica Dacic. He added that this also applied to former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic’s son Marko. When asked whether she expected help from the new Serbian government, she said she expected her husband’s case to be solved. “If he really comes, he will be arrested,” Dacic said and added that this was not a matter for the police but for judicial organs. “The issue should not be politicized, we should find the best possible legal solution instead,” he told reporters in Sremska Kamenica. According to him, it is necessary to decide what kind of legal system Serbia wants to have, whether it wants to encourage bail and release pending trial or long custody. “Custody must not turn into a sentence and one should only be in custody for a long time for the most serious crimes, because this is practice in western countries,” Dacic explained. He said that alleged information of certain media that Marko Milosevic had been to Belgrade was “nonsense”, adding that it was impossible. Dacic said that he would be arrested in he came to Serbia, just like anybody for whom arrest warrants had been issued. Canak has stated that Karic’s return to Serbia would be an interesting indicator of the consistency of the government whose member is Dinkic who “is directly responsible for the fact that Karic is not in the country”. Canak told reporters in parliament that one should not forget that Karic had left Serbia after “Dinkic insisted that he pay taxes on extra profit, which he did, but then fled the country under threat that he would be arrested”. “It seems to me that some personal, unresolved issues between Karic and Dinkic are behind it, while Prime Minister Dacic is treating it with an overwhelming arrogance. He does not want to get involved and he is using a clear police formula that everybody for whom an arrest warrant was issued will be arrested. But that is not the point, the point is what will happen further in the prosecution of the crimes,” the LSV leader concluded.
