Democrats “ready to help reach consensus on Kosovo”

BELGRADE Democratic Party (DS) MP Borislav Stefanovic said Tuesday that the party was ready to work towards a consensus on important issues related to Kosovo. After First Deputy PM and Defense Minister Aleksandar Vucic called on all important actors in the country to reach a consensus on Kosovo, Stefanovic said that the DS was ready for an agreement “if Vucic is calling for a consensus on electric energy, Telekom, northern Kosovo, but we have to see what it is that the new government is offering.” Democrats “ready to help reach consensus on Kosovo” Stefanovic told B92 that he had no doubt that Serbia would be increasingly pressurized as the continuation of the negotiations neared. “The pressures will be to recognize and accept Kosovo as a separate energy entity, to put Serbia's property into the hands of Kosovo's KEK energy corporation and for Kosovo to be given a dialing code that is different from that of Serbia's,” he explained. “When the northern Kosovo and Metohija comes up, Serbia will be pressurized to approach the resolution of the issue within the framework of the Ahtisaari plan, which it rejected,” Stefanovic stressed. “The new government will have to face these challenges,” said Stefanovic. Stefanović told B92 that he had no doubt that Serbia would be increasingly pressurized as the continuation of the negotiations neared.

“The pressures will be to recognize and accept Kosovo as a separate energy entity, to put Serbia's property into the hands of Kosovo's KEK energy corporation and for Kosovo to be given a dialing code that is different from that of Serbia's,” he explained.

“When the northern Kosovo and Metohija comes up, Serbia will be pressurized to approach the resolution of the issue within the framework of the Ahtisaari plan, which it rejected,” Stefanović stressed.

“The new government will have to face these challenges,” said Stefanović.
