BELGRADE Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) candidate for deputy PM and defense minister Aleksandar Vucic says combat against corruption needs to start from the state top. “When it comes to corruption nobody will be protected or there will not be the Serbian government. This is an important message that our members but also our coalition partners need to understand,” he said on Sunday. Combat against corruption “to start from state top” Vucic said that the future government will have “zero tolerance” for corruption and crime and that those who did not do anything but illegally acquired wealth would be tried first. He warned all future ministers from the SNS and all party members that this would primarily apply to them. “Do not be surprised when some of our people are tried in a month or two. We will make an example of our own people that we will not play with the state and that we are all equal and not that some have political protection because they belong to our or any other ruling party,” the SNS acting leader noted. He pointed out that the SNS would not protect criminals no matter which political party they were members of. According to Vucic, the new government will have an important job – to show the people in Serbia a perspective. He stressed that ministries and public companies were not loot and that his party would advocate professionalization of the state administration. Vucic added that the new government would continue the EU integration process and that he expected that the SNS Congress would confirm the strategic EU commitment on September 29.
