BELGRADE The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) supports the idea of achieving a national consensus on Kosovo that would observe the framework of the Constitution. The party also believes that a consensus would mean a termination of the way the Kosovo policy has been pursued so far. DSS supports idea of consensus on Kosovo DSS Vice-President Slobodan Samardzic stated at a news conference that he "does not know what exactly Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic meant by calling for a national consensus on Kosovo", noting, however, that DSS supports that idea in principle. "The first and last item of such a consensus which ought to be achieved at the republic parliament should be the Serbian Constitution, that is the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the content of that consensus would be open for consideration," Samardzic underlined. He believes that consensus should be reached as soon as possible "taking into account that foreign factors in Kosovo and Metohija act by the method of accomplished facts." According to him, this would be a good message for the whole world that Serbia is not only not willing to renounce Kosovo and Metohija, but is also formulating a strategy that the world would have to adhere to. In addition, arriving at a consensus would also signify a termination of the policy on Kosovo so far, which was 90 percent pursued by state president, 8 percent by the negotiator, 1.9 percent the government and only 0.1 percent the parliament. He believes that Serbs living in Kosovo should be included in the reaching of the national consensus as their survival in the southern province is of huge importance. Samardzic said that, at first glance, the idea on the need for a consensus reminds him of the way DSS pursued the Kosovo policy when they were in power, taking into account that the Serbian parliament adopted a total of five resolutions from 2005-2008 which either approved what had already been done or should be done in the future.
