Serbia's balance of payments deficit up by 47%

In the first four months of 2012, Serbia's balance of payments deficit increased almost by half when compared to the respective period in 2011.

BELGRADE In the first four months of 2012, Serbia's balance of payments deficit increased almost by half when compared to the respective period in 2011. This is according to the Conjuncture Trends of Serbia magazine, published by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS). Serbia's balance of payments deficit up by 47% The current account balance deficit amounted to near EUR 1.4 billion in the same period, which is 47 percent more than in the first four months of 2011. Serbia's balance of trade deficit in goods and services totaled EUR 1.9 billion. The outflow in income went up by 40 percent to reach EUR 300 million, mainly due to an increased outflow of the direct investment-based revenues and the payment of accrued interest. On the other hand, current transfers amounted to EUR 850 million in the first quarter of 2012, which is a decrease of around EUR 100 million mainly triggered by a 17-percent decline in remittance inflow.
