BELGRADE Belgrade-based tabloid Press is writing that money has been offered "for the heads" of a number of former and current officials - including Ivica Dacic. According to this article, the security agency BIA received this information "from a European service". "Crime boss offers money reward for murder of officials" Beside Dacic - who serves as interior minister in the outgoing cabinet and will head Serbia's next government - the names mentioned include former President Boris Tadic, his adviser Miodrag Rakic, BIA head Sasa Vukadinovic, Organized Crime Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic and former Justice Minister Snezana Malovic. The article identifies suspected fugitive drug boss Darko Saric as the person who offered EUR 10mn for the murder of the six officials, whom he "blames for the downfall of his narco-empire". According to this, Saric is currently located in South Africa. The tabloid adds that President Tomislav Nikolic had been informed about the content of the message. His cabinet confirmed that they learned about the endangerment of the said officials, and that "investigations have been launched". Nikolic's associates were quoted as saying that he "insisted that Tadic and his family receive maximum protection even after Tadic was out of office". He added that "such threats are a common thing". Information such as that Saric has offered EUR 10 million for the assassination of those he blames for the collapse of his trafficking empire is "nothing new," Dacic told journalists, following his meeting with the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians leader Istvan Pastor. "We keep getting information of this kind, and this is why security levels have been tightened up and all those who fought against crime in Serbia will be well-protected," Dacic underlined.
