BELGRADE Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Aleksandar Vucic arrived in the U.S. on Wednesday, Tanjug's correspondent in Washington has reported. Vucic will meet with officials of the Department of State on Friday, and return to Belgrade on Saturday, reported Tanjug. Leader of Serb Progressives arrives in U.S. It is still not known whether the SNS leader would confer with representatives of other U.S. institutions. Earlier in the day, media in Belgrade reported that the party would "neither confirm nor deny" that the trip to the U.S. was taking place. “Vucic is on a business trip but we cannot tell you where he went and who he will meet. He will say it once he has returned to Belgrade and he will be back on Saturday,” the SNS told the Belgeade-based Danas daily. The U.S. embassy in Belgrade also did not want to confirm or deny the information. It is speculated that Vucic could during his stay in the U.S. visit the Department of Defense, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) since it is expected that he will be the new defense minister and deputy prime minister for combat against corruption and organized crime. Vucic was already on a similar “secret mission” in early June, when he visited Berlin. Danas has learnt that during the visit he talked to Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Advisor on Foreign and Security Policy Christoph Heusgen and got support of the German government to form a ruling coalition with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and United Regions of Serbia (URS). On the other hand, PM-Designate Ivica Dacic went to Germany on Thursday where he will inform German officials about the future cabinet’s program and goals. Aleksandar Vucic (Beta, file) Danas Tanjug
