United Regions of Serbia (URS) official Verica Kalanovic believes that the government will be formed between July 20 and August 1. She also announced that a coalition agreement between the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and URS would be signed soon. URS official: Government to be formed by August “It is clear we will have to constitute parliament, choose speaker and deputy speakers and then to adopt the law on ministries and the government before we form the government,” Kalanovic explained. She pointed out that the coalition agreement would precisely lay out the new government’s path in the next four years and added that course of action in the economic and social policy was completely clear. “Strengthening of the economic and social policy is based on two pillars – one represents savings in the state bodies, scaling down the bureaucracy and creating a favorable business environment, and on the other side we want to support citizens and their standard by not reducing wages and pensions and securing conditions for them to be regular,” she told Tanjug. The URS official said that staffing decisions and the number of ministries in the new government had not been discussed yet. However, she expressed desire to be a regional development minister. “I would like to be a regional development minister and bearing in mind that the field will have a significant place in the government’s future policy, I suppose that we will have a ministry that will deal with it and I would personally like to do this job,” Kalanovic pointed out. Commenting on reports that there have been pressures to form a Democratic Party (DS)-SNS coalition, she said that she agreed with PM-designate Ivica Dacic who said that a pro-Serbian government that would take care of its citizens’ interests would be formed. “We do not want to go into that vicious cycle and create a government in accordance with interests of one, second or third side. The URS representatives met with Mr. (U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Philip) Reeker who has been mentioned as someone who came to lobby for the big coalition, however it was not discussed,” concluded Kalanovic.
