Croatia marked on Monday the 21st anniversary of its assembly's decision to become an independent country. Its officials laid wreaths at the Zagreb cemetery Mirogoj. Croatian officials mark Statehood Day President Ivo Josipovic, Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic and Deputy Parliament Speaker Josip Leko laid wreaths and lit candles at a number of monuments dedicated to military and civilian victims of the war in the 1990s. They also honored the graves of Croatia's first President Franjo Tudjman, former Prime Minister Ivica Racan, and "Partisan heroes from the Second World War", according to reports. Zagreb Catholic Cardinal Josip Bozanic held a mass for Craotia. A series of events will be held during the day.
