Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuqi has called on "displaced Serbs to return to their homes", according to reports. He stressed that "the Kosovo government would provide them the same rights as other citizens of Kosovo". Kosovo Albanian official "urges Serbs to return" Kuqi said on the World Refugee Day that “we should devote more attention to people we call internally displaced and especially to non-Albanian citizens who live in the territory of Kosovo”. According to UNHCR data, there are around 200,000 people, mostly Serbs and other non-Albanians, who have been internally displaced in Serbia. “This is a good day to call on everybody, especially the Serb citizens to return to their properties and their homes, where the Kosovo government and their country would give them the same rights as all other citizens of Kosovo. Of course, we cannot carry out the activity on our own and we are asking the international organizations to help us create financial and other conditions,” Kuqi was quoted by VOA. UNHCR Head in Kosovo Joe Hegenauer said that the World Refugee Day, which was marked on Wednesday, was no reason for celebration anywhere in the world, including Kosovo because there were many people who had been forced to leave their homes.
