Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic is ready for a dialogue with Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga, European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur Jelko Kacin believes. According to Radio Free Europe, Kacin said that Nikolic had expressed readiness during his visit to Brussels to meet with all Kosovo officials except for Prime Minister Hashim Thaci. "Serbian president ready to meet with Kosovo counterpart" Kacin assessed that the Belgrade had therefore been the one to initiate the top-level meeting. Pristina-based Albanian language daily Koha Ditore writes that the EU is optimistic about Nikolic and Jahjaga’s meeting. International officials told the daily that Brussels wanted the meeting to represent progress in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue which would go from being technical to a top-level meeting. The international sources also do not rule out a possibility that Thaci will meet with Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic if he becomes Serbia’s prime minister. However, they believe that a meeting between Nikolic and Jahjaga is more likely. Sources from EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton’s cabinet told Koha Ditore that an agenda on improvement of relations between Serbia and Kosovo had been clarified after Nikolic visited Brussels and expressed readiness to cooperate. According to the same sources, the international officials have prepared a list of tasks that Serbia and Kosovo need to complete by the end of the year, such as implementation of agreements that have been reached in Brussels and reaching of new agreements, including deals on energy, telecommunications and others that will allow EULEX to fully function in northern Kosovo. Among the agreements that need to be reached are abolition of the Serbian “parallel” structures in the north, opening of Kosovo’s office in Belgrade and Serbia’s office in Pristina in order to improve the relations, Koha Ditore writes. The sources also pointed out that the Kosovo government needed to improve services provided to the northern Kosovo Serbs. Jelko Kacin Beta
