Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic said Sunday that the next PM should be from the Democratic Party (DS). He added that the DS should also lead the talks on the forming of the government. “Next PM should be Democrat” The SPS leader also said that the SPS-led coalition would start the talks with the DS on Monday. Dacic stressed on Sunday at the first session of the SPS Main Board that Serbia, instead of large coalition, requireed a coalition formed on program principles, which would not lead to a bureaucratic state. “Serbia needs a government of competent people,” he said, adding that the motto of the new government should be to create a strong and powerful Serbia and protect national interests in the difficult times ahead. “SPS-PUPS-JS wants a competent government that will have a clear policy,” he said. Dacic said that the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition was the true winner of the general elections held on May 6, while the two main parties, Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and the DS, despite the results, in fact lost the elections, but still got the posts of president of Serbia and, possibly, of prime minister. “The previous democratic political potential suffered a collapse. Neither the SNS nor DS can be the victors with 23 and 22 percent of the votes of the electorate,” he said. “The result of the SNS is a product of protests against current policy, rather than of votes for the party's program,” the SPS leader explained. “The task of the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition is not to allow the DS and SNS to have monopoly on the political scene in Serbia,” said Dacic and recalled that several times during the campaign he sent a message to both parties that there is a third Serbia.
