Croat President Ivo Josipovic says that Serbia’s newly elected president Tomislav Nikolic must change his stance in order for Croatia and Serbia to cooperate. Commenting on Nikolic’s denial that he ever said that Vukovar “is a Serbian town”, Josipovic said: Croat president: Nikolic must change his position “It’s good if he denied it but we know that history of his relations with Croatia is bad. I have expressed my conviction, wish and hope that he will change his positions and of course, cooperation will be possible,” Croatian Radio Television (HRT) has reported. Nikolic denied on Friday that he said that Vukovar was “a Serbian town and that Croats had no business going back there” after Croatian media reported that he told this to German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. “President Nikolic has never given such a statement to any paper,” read Nikolic’s denial. Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Aleksandar Vucic said that “Tomislav Nikolic used to say this but it is not what he is saying today”. “He now wants to look into the future and wants peace and stability in the region. The pillar of the stability must be good relations between Croatia and Serbia. I am convinced that it will be possible for the first time to solve issues that used to be swept under the rug before,” Vucic stressed. Ivo Josipovic (FoNet, file) Tanjug
