The new government needs to be formed as soon as possible, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic told B92. He added that Boris Tadic would be the best candidate the Democratic Party (DS) could offer for the prime minister. LDP leader: We need govt. as soon as possible “This is not Boris Tadic’s personal defeat, this is a defeat of his party that has existed as a parasite thanks to him for eight years. This is a defeat of a collegium of his vice presidents, who disappeared the moment they had to be not only party leaders but leaders of the country and this is a defeat of our society which wanted to sit in the positions that were provided by Boris Tadic only to give up on Boris Tadic in the end,” he told B92. “One should not be surprised by the fact that people did not vote on May 20. The price for a series of bad political decisions has been paid,” Jovanovic pointed out. He stressed that the people had lost elementary trust in the institutions and politicians. The LDP leader believes that it was a mistake to call the general elections and that it created chaos in the election cycle. Jovanovic said that Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic’s announcement that he would resign from the party was a democratic and important gesture. When asked whether the LDP and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) could join the same government, he said it “depends on what we should do”. The LDP leader said he thought that the SPS was aware that things they promoted during the election campaign were unsustainable. He repeated that he had said in the campaign that he was ready to cooperate with Nikolic but pointed out that “the key relations are between the LDP and DS”. Jovanovic stressed that Serbia had to get a government as soon as possible, and called on Tadic to "break the silence," because the votes he won bind him to do that. “The success of the government will depend on the fact whether our society is ready to support what the government is doing,” he explained. The LDP leader noted that Tadic was the best choice for prime minister. “There is no politician in the DS aside from him, with all his weaknesses there is nobody else who carries such political weight,” he concluded.
