Several hours before the polling stations closed in Serbia, statements of top EU officials were released congratulating Tomislav Nikolic. The statement, mistakenly published before the polls closed and election results were known, said that European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and EC President Jose Maunel Barroso congratulated Serbia's new president, Tomislav Nikolic, on his victory. Serbians today voted in the second round of presidential elections, choosing between Nikolic and his rival, DS leader Boris Tadic.
