Presidential candidates Boris Tadic and Tomislav Nikolic will take part in a Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) TV debate on Wednesday evening. Both candidates have called on voters to go to the polls on Sunday. Presidential hopefuls to take part in TV debate A source from RTS told daily Danas that the two presidential candidates will answer eight questions and that they will have three minutes for each answer. Tadic and Nikolic will have one minute to comment on each other’s answers. The debate will last between 75 and 90 minutes and the participants will have an additional minute to address the public in the end. The presidential candidate's campaign staff were given the rules on Tuesday and both candidates had to sign the document. Faculty of Political Sciences professor Snjezana Milivojevic told Danas that ”an exciting and uncertain duel” awaits us and that it would significantly affect the “election political culture in Serbia” and the voters’ decision. She explained that one of the reasons tonight’s debate could be “dramatic” was the fact that the two candidates had won almost the same number of votes in the first round of the presidential elections. Milivojevic said that both candidates were experienced politicians who knew each other well, adding that they would come prepared. According to her, it is a rare case that candidates directly face each other during the election process. Harvard professor Joseph Nye told Danas that the participants’ emotional intelligence and self-control, confidence and ability to get through to others were much more important than their promises. Tadic, Democratic Party (DS)-led coalition presidential candidate, said ahead of the TV debate that the May 20 elections were crucial for the country’s future. Nikolic, a candidate of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS)-led coalition, has stated that he would bring necessary changes if he was elected. Boris Tadic and Tomislav Nikolic Beta Danas
