Ivica Dacic today met with representatives of Russian Cossacks and Serb diaspora in Russia, and expressed his gratitude to that country. One of the deputy PMs and interior minister in the outgoing government said that Russia was "keeping the Kosovo issue open at the United Nations Security Council". Russia thanked for support on Kosovo at UNSC Otherwise, the council "would probably have made its decision on the status of Kosovo", he said. The province's ethnic Albanians more than four years ago unilaterally declared independence, but Serbia rejected that proclamation and enjoys Russia's support on the issue at the UN. "The Serb people feel great gratitude towards Russia, our natural allies, and thank Russia for her principled position on Kosovo," Dacic stated. He added that this gratitude also extended to the Cossacks who "demonstrated their brotherly stance toward Serbia in practice and helped the Serb people in Kosovo". "Generals, Cossacks, atamans, they all hold an important place in Russia's history, and the Serb people have expressed their love during their visit, " Dacic was further quoted as saying. According to him, the Cossacks were not only representatives of the administration of the Russian president, but also of the Russian people and diplomacy. Cossack General Vladimir Glukhovsky said that the visit was not official: "This is a visit of Russian Cossacks, who feel heartfelt love toward the Serbs, and are prepared to help the brotherly and friendly Serb nation." He also thanked the Serbs for "the love shown" during the visit that lasted several days. Glukhovsky noted that ties between the two nations would be even more successful if their governments established similar relations, and if "a representative of Serbia such as Dacic did that": "We are convinced that Dacic is the core of your nation, a Serb patriot just like the Cossacks are Russian patriots, ready to give everything they have for their people." The Moscow-Serb House Chairwoman Radmila Vojnovic said during the same news conference that Serbs in northern Kosovo had the Cossacks to thank for the humanitarian assistance they received, and also expressed her gratitude to the generals for organizing the humanitarian shipment.
