Ivica Dacic has said that it was "normal" for his to support DS leader Boris Tadic in the second round of the Serbian presidential elections. Dacic, who heads the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and is deputy PM and interior minister in the outgoing government, said his endorsement of Tadic came because they previously reached a deal to form Serbia's next government. SPS leader Dacic: Support for Tadic is "normal" Speaking in Belgrade on Tuesday, Dacic, who finished third in the first round of the presidential election on May 6, as did his party in the parliamentary vote, said he "didn't take anyone's votes": "Those are my votes. I didn't fight neither forTadic nor for Nikolic, but for the SPS-PUPS-JS (pre-election) coalition, and my goal is to beat both of them, and we're on our way to doing just that." Dacic also rejected assertions that he acted as Tadic's "Trojan horse" in the elections - by taking the votes of dissatisfied voters, to then give them back to the Democrats by once again joining their government. He stated that by winning 15 percent of the votes cast in the parliamentary elections, the Socialists doubled their result from 2008. "The coalitions gathered around the DS and the SNS won 22 and 23 percent of the vote, and Serbia's political scene has been completely altered. We owe it only to the people who voted for our coalition," concluded Dacic. Ivica Dacic (file) Beta Tanjug
