Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said on Thursday that Serbia would continue to cooperate with the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). He added that Serbia firmly believed that international stability and prosperity could not be consolidated without taking into account the views of the majority of the "global family of nations." Serbia to continue cooperation with NAM, FM says "Such is our choice as a small and peaceful country determined to play a dignified role on the world stage," Jeremic said at the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which is underway in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh summer resort. He underlined that respecting the basic tenets of the UN Charter was indispensable to meeting multilateral challenges. "This should be embraced by all nations committed to peace, social justice, and equitable prosperity for all of mankind-whether or not they are members of the Non-Aligned Movement." The Serbian foreign minister stressed. Recalling that Serbia is a NAM co-founder, Jeremic noted that it was also the only European country with a long tradition of engagement throughout the developing world which is based exclusively on a legacy of amity, solidarity and assistance in the anti-colonialist struggle. "Our Non-Aligned history has left a particularly deep imprint on how Serbia conducts its foreign affairs," the Serbian FM pointed out. Jeremic said that Serbia's support for the founding principles of the Movement was manifested by the country's consistent voting record in various multilateral forums on matters of particular concern for NAM members, including the issue of Palestine. "Another manifestation of our solidarity is the commitment to keep expanding the 'World in Serbia' Scholarship Fund, which already enables hundreds of young people from Non-Aligned states to study at the University of Belgrade," Jeremic said. After the Ministerial Meeting, the Serbian delegation, headed by the foreign minister, will continue with its bilateral activities. Jeremic called on the non-aligned countries to support his bid for UN General Assembly chairman and stressed that he would responsibly perform his duties if he was elected. He added that he would try to expand the role of the UN General Assembly if he was elected. Vuk Jeremic is seen with representatives of NAM countries Beta Tanjug
