Boris Tadic's victory in the presidential run-off is vital for Serbia’s future and its pathway, Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader Jelena Trivan has said. It is much more important that the issue of partisan calculations, she added “Tadic’s victory important for Serbia's path” She said that it was important first to finish the entire election cycle, and then speak about the government, which will be made of pro-European parties. “The government gathered around pro-European parties will be able to continue the policy of the European integration process and regional cooperation only if the head of state is someone who will help and pursue this type of policy rather than be an obstacle to it,” Trivan told daily Danas. When asked what are the red lines that the DS will not cross in further talks on the coalition with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), she said that these were the values the DS never gave up on both in the internal and foreign policy. “The previous government was formed on a clear program of continuation of the European integration process, preservation of sovereignty, cooperation with the ICTY, and social justice, and we have managed to achieve these goals together. In that sense, the SPS proved to be a responsible partner, and the new government will be formed on the common goals and program, comprising the most competent persons for the realization of this program,” she was quoted as saying. The DS-led coalition and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS)-Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS)-United Serbia (JS) agreed on Wednesday to continue their joint political activities and that the coalition centered around the SPS would support Tadic in the second round of the presidential election.
