Several parties have called on their voters to support Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic in the second round of the presidential election. Tadic will on May 20 seek his third term in office, running against Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic. Parties throw support behind Tadic's bid On Tuesday, Mladjan Dinkic's United Regions of Serbia (URS) held a meeting of the party's presidency to decide to support Tadic's bid. United Serbia (JS) President Dragan Markovic, who is also mayor of the town of Jagodina, joined a Tadic campaign rally there to call on the citizens and his supporters to vote for the leader of the Democrats. He also asserted that the previous government was "the first in recent history that completed its mandate and managed to turn Serbia into a politically stable country", adding that "such a policy should persist". United Serbia is part of a pre-election coalition led by Ivica Dacic's Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). Also on Tuesday, Dacic stated that he wished to see a deal on Serbia's next government in place before he supported either of the presidential candidates. But Vuk Draskovic and his Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) had no doubt who they were backing in the runoff: "This is a matter of principle, given that we have been fighting for an European Serbia together with Boris Tadic ever since 1990," Draskovic was quoted as saying. His pre-election partners, the Liberal-Democrats led by Cedomir Jovanovic, hinted they would do the same. Tadic is seen campaigning in Jagodina, along side Dragan Markovic Palma (Tanjug) B92 Tanjug
