Mladjan Dinkic, leader of the United Regions of Serbia (URS), stated on Wednesday that Serbia needs development rather than conflicts and political quarrels. "It is high time that everyone got united around common goals - doubling the budget for agriculture, reducing taxes and levies, employing people in all regions and providing equal opportunities for everyone," Dinkic, whose G17 Plus party is now part of the URS, said at an election rally in Knjazevac, eastern Serbia. Dinkic party talks "equal opportunities, tax reform" The former cabinet minister pointed out that the work on the ground has to start immediately and that all towns should be given equal opportunities for investments, opening of new jobs and infrastructure development. He stressed that Serbia needs a serious change of the system, but that this cannot be done by politicians "who are always in Belgrade and who do not see the problems of common people from their offices." The URS leader said that Serbia is in need of a government which listens to the voice of the people and which will treat all regions equally. Meanwhile, one of the party's top officials and a deputy prime minister in the current government, Verica Kalanovic, was in Kraljevo where she said the recovery of Serbia's economy required a serious tax reform, shorter payment terms, reduction of parafiscal charges and simplification of bureaucratic procedures. Kalanovic added that a number of meetings held with across Serbia led to the conclusion that it is necessary to change the tax system in a way that the tax is paid after the payment, and not when the invoice is issued. She stressed that it is necessary to shorten payment terms to 60 days. Kalanovic also said that a great number of unnecessary burdens have to be reduced and that simplification of administrative procedures and the fight against bureaucracy are in direct connection with facilitating the work of enterprises.
