Aleksandar Vucic of the opposition SNS has urged the media to stop deceiving the people when they report that President Boris Tadic "shortened his mandate". There is no such thing as "shortening one's mandate" in the Constitution or laws of Serbia, the deputy leader of the Serb Progressives (SNS) noted. Opposition party to media: Tadic resigned Earlier in the day, Tadic announced that he had decided to "cut his term short so that the presidential election could also be held on May 6". Everyone is saying that Tadic has shortened his term, Vucic said, underlining that the truth is that the president resigned. He told a press conference that as of today, Tadic is just an ordinary citizen. Vucic also noted that it was his hope this will remain Tadic's status in the future. According to him, Tadic is "lo longer the president of anything, except for the (ruling) Democratic Party (DS)". Vucic underlined that Serbia needs new solutions and change. The SNS will hold a session later in the day, at which it will decide on its candidate for Serbia's president. Vucic, however, voiced belief that it will be SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic, and that he will defeat Tadic in the polls. At the same time, he said that he does not see himself as future prime minister, but refused to say who that might be, although he mentioned SNS official and MP Jorgovanka Tabakovic in that context. The opposition party has consistently polled as the country's most popular, with the Democrats (DS) expected to be its main rivals in the parliamentary ballot, also scheduled for May 6.
