Hashim Thaci is visiting the United States this week, where he is today scheduled to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama, said reports. Albanian language media in Kosovo write this Tuesday that Thaci, who heads the government in Pristina, will also meet with the U.S. vice-president, and current and former secretaries of state - Hillary Clinton, and Madeleine Albright. "Thaci visits U.S., Tadic stays away" Thaci is also scheduled to visit the UN headquarters and is expected to meet with the UN secretary-general, according to these reports. Meanwhile, President Boris Tadic, was also scheduled to travel to Washington this week and "visit Obama", but that "did not happen". The reason is that the Serbian delegation did not wish to be there at the same time as Thaci, says Washington-based political analyst Obrad Kesic. "The American administration has decided that, at least for the time being, Hashim Thaci despite all his shortcomings represents the best solution for them, therefore it was worked for a long time to realize this visit, for him to be received by President Obama," said Kesic. He added that Thaci' trip today is also happening "because he accepted the latest agreement that happened in Brussels" - i.e., Belgrade-Pristina talks deal on Kosovo's regional representation. According to Kesic, the visit "holds a fair amount of significance for Thaci himself". This analyst is also doubtful whether Boris Tadic and Barack Obama will meet at all, should presidential elections be called in Serbia this month. B92
