I do not know how the probe into organ trafficking in Kosovo is going because we are not conducting the investigation, the Hague Tribunal chief prosecutor says. “The prosecution is not running the investigation so I cannot comment on its progress. A limited amount of the information that the prosecution had was handed over to the regional authorities by former Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte,” Serge Brammertz told Croatian tportal.hr. Prosecutor: Tribunal is not conducting organ trade probe Commenting on the Hague Tribunal’s work, he said that the Tribunal had played a key role in bringing war criminals in the region to justice. “The Hague Tribunal started its work in a moment when national courts did not want and were unable to bring war criminals to justice. If there had not been for the Hague Tribunal there probably would not have been justice for the victims,” Brammertz stressed. He added that the Hague Tribunal had contributed to the reconciliation process and a process of facing the past. He noted that it was now up to local institutions and politicians to take a lead role in order to continue the process. “We are aware that facing the past is a complex process. To many it is still hard to accept that their war heroes in fact abused their position and committed serious war crimes against civilians,” the chief prosecutor explained. “This is why it is so important for the Hague Tribunal to document the irrefutable truth,” he concluded and announced that he would soon visit the region.
