The Kosovo government and President Atifete Jahjaga have strongly condemned the arrest of two Kosovo police (KPS) officers at the administrative line Saturday. They also demanded that they be immediately released. KPS officers were kidnapped, Kosovo IM claims “Such cowardly act by the Serbian government is contrary to the European values of good neighborly relations and regional cooperation it is severely stepping over the agreements reached between Kosovo and Serbia under the EU and U.S. mediation. This act questions relations between the two countries,” the Kosovo government said in a release. Jahjaga said that such actions could not be tolerated. “The arrest of the Kosovo police members who were on the assignment is an attack on the institutional and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo,” she stressed. Jahjaga also called on Serbia to respect the agreements that had been reached in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi has said that the two KPS members were “kidnapped” while they were patrolling the area. “They got into a trap while they were removing tree trunks from the road they regularly patrol,” Rexhepi told Radio Television Kosova and added that “13 Serbian gendarmes surrounded and kidnapped them and then transferred them to Serbia”. Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Saturday that the two Kosovo policemen were arrested on the territory of central Serbia.
