A U.S. soldier was detained after shooting to death at least 17 civilians near his base in Kandahar province Sunday morning, said local rep Hadji Aghi Lalaya. The American soldier walked out of an advanced U.S. military base and opened fire on civilians, killing and wounding several, provincial governor Tooryalai Wesa said, though he did not provide an exact number.
