Iran’s Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Asghar Soltanieh has rejected accusations that Tehran is making a nuclear weapon. He added that Iran did not need a nuclear bomb. “Iran does not need nuclear weapons” “We don’t need a nuclear bomb. We have always been against nuclear weapons and we will continue to be against them,” Soltanieh told Austrian APA agency. “We have always criticized the countries that own nuclear weapons in the international organizations, such as IAEA,” he added. The Iranian official explained that Tehran mainly criticized “the Zionist regime in Israel that has such weapons without any consequence”. Soltanieh said that the fact that the IAEA inspectors, who carried out more than 100 unannounced inspections, had not found anything suspicious supported Tehran’s claims that it was only using nuclear energy for civilian and peaceful purposes. He noted that he was not concerned about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that not even sanctions were helping in the conflict with Iran and that a military intervention was becoming inevitable. “The international community is concerned about the Zionists’ machinations and their nuclear weapons. This is why Israel’s Zionist government double standard policy is ridiculous. It is time for the international community to send a clear signal against the Israeli nuclear weapons. Nobody is accusing the regime and it is not under anyone’s control. This has to change,” the Iranian ambassador pointed out. He also believes that the IAEA has failed to fulfill its duty in that respect. (Beta, file) “U.S. urges Israel to postpone attack on Iran” Tel Aviv-based daily Maariv writes that the U.S. has offered high-tech weapons to Israel in exchange for a promise that it will not attack Iran’s nuclear facilities this year. Quoting unnamed Western diplomats, the daily has reported that the U.S. administration offered to supply Israel with high-tech ranged weapons during Netanyahu’s visit to Washington this week. In exchange, Israel should agree to postpone a possible attack on Iran until 2013, i.e. until after the U.S. presidential election, which will be held in November. Tanjug
