Belgrade negotiator in the Kosovo talks Borislav Stefanovic has said that it will be "difficult" to reach agreements on telecommunications and energy. This was mentioned as one of the key conditions for Serbia to receive a date for the start of EU accession talks, after it was granted candidate status last week. Negotiator: Agreements will be hard to reach But Stefanovic told Belgrade-based tabloid Press in an interview that the positions of Belgrade and Pristina on these issues were opposing, and "remain fairly far apart". Belgrade insists that the functioning of Telekom Srbija and the power power company EPS be regulated both in the majority Serb north, and in the south, where Serbs live in enclaves, but "at the moment Pristina is refusing to accept that", he explained. However, Stefanovic believes that it will be possible for Serbia to be given a date for accession talks by the end of this year: "If this government remains in power, it will do everything for agreement to be reached between Belgrade and Pristina." Stefanovic, who has been heading Serbia's government delegation in the EU-sponsored negotiations since March 2011, said he was "optimistic", but that deals on telecommunications and energy would be "hard to reach". "In any case, a new government will have to continue the talks," he concluded. Parliamentary elections will take place in Serbia in April or May of this year. Borislav Stefanovic (file) Tanjug Press
