There is a party dictatorship in Serbia based on parties’ monopoly on parts of Serbia, former Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) member Vesna Pesic has said. “This means that they have destroyed our country, it almost does not exist anymore,” she told daily Vecernje novosti. Party dictatorship present in Serbia, ex-MP claims “Look at the staffing policy, public companies… Incompetent people are being placed there and they do not answer to anyone. In socialism, directors were responsible for the company’s work and now, in the so-called democracy, they do whatever they want because they only recognize their parties,” she stressed. “Capitalism was introduced here on condition to keep the monopoly on the state, but it’s not one party anymore but 25 parties are now dividing the state among themselves,” Pesic noted. When asked whether there was a political option in Serbia that could do better, she said that even if there was the current opponents would block it. The former MP stressed that all protected party leaders were a part of the “political mafia”. “By this I mean all party leaders and bosses who are protected and do not answer before court, no matter how much they violate the law, no matter how much damage they incur to the society and the state. Charges against them are not taken into account, they are thrown into trash cans. A society that has such privileges is cruel and unfair and of course mafia-like because the mafia is above the law,” Pesic explained. She stated that the current government had done nothing to make Serbia a modern, legal state and to improve the governing system. “The government looks like a bunch of Cossacks that send each other text messages,” she pointed out, adding that the privatization had been done without any control, that the labor market had been destroyed and that ministers kept spending the state money.
