Serbian Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic says that elections in Kosovo cannot be held without full consent of the international factors. He told B92 that a decision on holding of the local elections in northern Kosovo was primarily political and that it would require full consensus of all political factors, the government, parliament and the president. “It would be difficult to hold elections in Kosovo” “I don’t think that it technically possible to organize the elections without consent of the international community because UNMIK and the other international organizations have full control of the territory. If we cannot agree with Albanians on the issue, and it is certain we will not be able to do it, then the only solution is to reach an agreement with the international missions in Kosovo,” Ivanovic pointed out. He says that the local elections are not connected to Serbia’s EU candidacy and that it is a technical issue since it would be technically impossible to reach certain enclaves, bring ballots and organize free elections that would not be hampered by the Pristina institutions and the police. “Therefore, I doubt that it is technically feasible to hold the elections in Kosovo unless we get support from the international community in Kosovo,” the state secretary noted.
