Serbian, Croatian and Slovak Presidents Boris Tadic, Ivo Josipovic and Ivan Gasparovic will meet with their Czech counterpart Vaclav Klaus on Saturday. It is expected that the main topics of the talks will be Serbia and Croatia’s EU integration process and Czech and Slovak experiences that could help them along the way. The Czech Republic and Slovakia became EU members in 2004. Croatia will become the 28th EU member state on July 1, 2013. Serbia expects to get the EU candidate status on March 1 and both Klaus and Gasparovic strongly support the Balkan countries in their aspirations to join the EU. Together with Poland and Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia are members of the Visegrad Group whose main goal is regional cooperation on the road to the EU. The group’s experience could help Tadic and Josipovic improve interstate cooperation in the Balkans and serve as a model and an inspiration for solving of problems and obstacles on the EU pathway.
