Boris Tadic visited late on Monday the Kolubara mining basin where coal for power plants is mined in difficult conditions due to low temperatures and high snow. Tadic had talks with the management of the company and of the state-run Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) on the current situation in the basin. Serbian president visits Kolubara coal mines The strip mines located southwest of Belgrade annually produce about 75 percent of the total quantity of coal in Serbia, while 52 percent of the total quantity of coal for Serbian power plants comes from the Kolubara basin. While at the mine, the president once again appealed on all citizens to make every effort and save electricity: "We all need solidarity in Serbia today. The circumstances are extremely difficult and I appeal on all citizens to save energy so we can get through this horrible storm, and hopefully God will also be on our side so we'll have warmer weather soon." EPS General-Director Dragomir Markovic was also at the mines, to tell reporters that there will be no power cuts in the country in the coming days, and that emergency cuts in electricity supply will be brought to a minimum.
