Police have arrested 13 persons for attacking Croat fans in Novi Sad and are searching for three more persons, Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic says. The three remaining persons are suspected of organizing the attack. Police continue search for attackers “The arrested men are in police custody and we are still looking for three more,” he explained. It was reported earlier that 12 persons who were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion that they were involved in attacks on the Croat handball fans had been released after questioning. 36 cars were damaged in the incidents and three Croatian citizens suffered minor injuries. About 20 Croatian citizens were brought to a police station to indentify the suspects from a line-up but none of them recognized any of the 12 detained men. “Without identification there was no basis to keep them, because only a direct material evidence of identification by the victim represents a basis for detention in such cases,” a well-informed source told daily Blic. According to the source, the suspects were released after questioning but all of them provided DNA samples so they could be compared to biological traces found on the destroyed cars. B92 has learned that Ivan Kljucovski and Jovan Bajic, leaders of a fan group from Novi Sad, and a member of Obraz right-wing group are among the arrested men. Croatian Radio Television (HRT) has reported that tourist agencies and the Croatian Handball Association have given up on organizing trips to Serbia for Croat handball fans due to security reasons.
