Opposition SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic has said that it was "almost impossible" for his party not to emerge victorious from the next parliamentary elections. The voting is expected take place in the spring, and will be the first test of the kind for the party that in 2008 split from the Serb Radicals (SRS). SNS leader convinced of election victory Even though the SNS never took part in parliamentary elections, it polls as one of the country's most popular. Nikolic told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti in an interview that he would "face a dilemma" on whether to continue his career in politics if his predictions about winning the elections did not come true. Asked if he was he was as certain as the ruling DS leader and Serbia's president, Boris Tadic, that the two parties could not enter a coalition, Nikolic said: "After these elections I'm certainly crossing them out as allies. A coalition with the DS would represent amnesty for the ten-year demise of Serbia. How can I join a government with them when they tore apart the economy, when they are champions of corruption, when they lied to us about the EU candidature? If someone fell asleep on October 5 (2000), and woke up today, would they notice that something had happened?" Nikolic added that there was "no progress" in the country - apart from "one bridge that comes from nowhere and leads nowhere, but cost so much money that it could have provided 100,000 peasants with EUR 5,000 loans, which they would repay once life has returned to villages, which are now a wasteland". When it comes to what the newspaper described as the "obvious choice between the EU and Kosovo," the SNS leader stated that he "wished to live honorably": "As soon as the condition of 'either EU (membership) or Kosovo' is publicly made, that will be the moment the Serbian citizen in me speaks up and says: Kosovo is Serbia. I wish to live my life honorably, and I do not want someone to spit on my grave. If they have someone else to hand over Kosovo, let them do that. That very moment we'll stop talking about EU membership, but we will continue to arrange our country according to European standards." Asked what "the SNS position on Kosovo" was, he stated that he "did not wish to fall into the trap of giving Tadic suggestions." "I'm in the opposition. My job is to say in the campaign what I plan to do," Nikolic said. Tomislav Nikolic (Tanjug, file) Vecernje novosti
