Another difficult year awaits the Serbian citizens, Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic has warned in a statement for B92 on the first day of 2012. Speaking in Belgrade on Sunday, Cvetkovic said that he believed a resolution to the debt crisis in the eurozone would alleviate the situation in Serbia, and that by the end of it, "2012 will turn out to be a successful year". Difficult year ahead, PM warns Serbians The premier said his government was monitoring the events in the eurozone, and that for this reason, the country's planned GDP this year would be "somewhat lower than in 2011". "I don't believe there will be mass job creation in an economy growing at 1.5 percent, but it must be said that it's not very likely there will be further job losses. I think the year will be difficult, but I hope also successful," he stated. According to Cvetkovic, Serbia last year attracted "much more FDI than any of the countries in the region". He expects that this will reflect positively on 2012. The prime minister also sent his message that his cabinet will insist on the "both EU and Kosovo" policy until the end of its mandate - due to expire this spring - as that it had no right to change the policy that the citizens elected it for. "The government received its mandate, based on which basic goals were set: one was the EU (membership), and the other preservation of the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty," he explained. Asked to appraise the government's performance "in the political, coalition sense", Cvetkovic responded by saying that "the functioning of a coalition government, with some ten parties in it, is very complicated". "A lot of patience and sacrifice is needed in order to keep everything on a single track," said he. Cvetkovic did not wish to say if he would once again be a candidate for prime minister after the next election, stating only that this was "a personal question", but adding at the same time that he believed "this (ruling) coalition will continue to lead the state and continue with what the current government is doing".
