The Kosovo government's strategy for northern Kosovo will be based on the Ahtisaari plan, Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Slobodan Petrovic told Voice of America. He added that the local Serbs should not miss this chance. Thaci deputy: Ahtisaari plan chance for Serbs Petrovic said that the economic development of this part of Kosovo would be the main focus of the strategy, and pointed out that the citizens themselves would be the primary partners in its implementation. “The strategy for northern Kosovo is primarily in the scope of Martti Ahtissari's plan. It is focused on the economic development of the north,” the Kosovo deputy PM noted and qualified as completely unacceptable that the issue of the north and decentralization be politicized to such an extent. “I am in the position to see how the citizens in the north lose their investments, not only from the Kosovo government but also from the international community as well, and therefore we need to mobilize funds for our citizens there in order to realize the planned projects,” he stated. Speaking of the ideas for the implementation of the plan, Petrovic said that the Ahtisaari “Plus Plan” was not ideal, but that he was aware that this was an opportunity that should not be missed. “We can see that the process of decentralization and the process of forming new municipalities with the Serb majority is underway in south Kosovo. The fact itself shows a lot. It is not enough just to form the municipalities, but we should rather improve life there, which is a game in which the citizens play an important role. The citizens in northern Kosovo need to be properly informed about the process,” Petrovic stressed. According to him, the northern Kosovo citizens, primarily Serbs, should know what is going on in southern Kosovo's municipalities with the Serb majority, which could be an example for the north.
