The Serb National Council of Northern Kosovo will propose holding of a referendum on whether citizens want the Pristina institutions or not. The proposal will be submitted to all political factors and structures in Kosovo and Serbia. Serb council in north "to propose referendum" Serb National Council of Northern Kosovo President Milan Ivanovic said that nobody would have the right to “violate people’s democratically expressed will” in the case of referendum. “We need to continue the fight against establishment and imposition of the Kosovo institutions with all democratic and legitimate means, regardless of the means that KFOR Commander Erhard Drews will use, who is maybe even going to carry out Chancellor Angela Merkel’s requests,” he stressed. Ivanovic assessed that the Belgrade authorities “are jeopardizing vital interests and Serbs’ survival” in Kosovo and added that that they were doing this in order to remain in power, “even at the cost of losing a part of the territory”. “It is necessary to change the government, talks about integrations need to be frozen as well as allegedly technical talks with Pristina that are to our detriment because the state attributes are being transferred to the Kosovo institutions,” the Serb National Council of Northern Kosovo president noted. He explained that certain Serbian top officials were in favor of gradual abolition of the Serbian institutions in Kosovo. “Dual sovereignty, that President Boris Tadic is advocating, would de facto mean recognition of Kosovo Albanian statehood and Serbs would be unable to stay, survive and return, and it would also disable implementation of (UN Security Council) Resolution 1244, that they only verbally advocate,” the northern Kosovo leader stressed. Commenting on Zvonko Veselinovic’s arrest, Ivanovic said that the arrest “serves to topple and abolish the Serbian institutions, cause fear, destabilize the situation” so the Serbs would accept the Kosovo Albanian institutions and Kosovo’s statehood. “Veselinovic’s arrest is tendentious at the moment, it has been calculated in ordered to weaken the barricades and this is a beginning of the abolition of our institutions and execution of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s orders,” he pointed out. Ivanovic added that this was a “puppet policy that is carrying out the West’s orders” and “eliminating people who are an obstacle” to the establishment of the Kosovo institutions.
