Everything is in your hands now. The European Commission will help Serbia on its integration path any way it can, EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule says. Commenting on the fact that the European Council made a decision that is completely the opposite from the EC’s recommendation, Fule said that “the decision is not completely the opposite”. Serbia to get candidate status soon, EU commissioner says “The member states decide here. If things as a reaction to the EC annual report had been done more completely all of us would have felt more comfortable about the member states’ decision,” the EU enlargement commissioner told daily Blic. He said he respected the European Council’s decision and that the most important thing for Serbia was to realize that many positive things had happened in the several previous days in Serbia even though there was some difference in opinions, but that “there was not enough time to convince the member states”. “It is a shame that we did not have enough time. It is important that Serbia has received a confirmation from the highest level for its cooperation with The Hague, fulfillment of the Copenhagen criteria and for an extremely important role in the reconciliation process in the Western Balkans. That’s a solid basis that will enable you to get the candidate status very soon,” Fule concluded. Stefan Fule (Tanjug, file)
