DS deputy leader Dusan Petrovic has said that there can be no coalition between the Democrats (DS)and the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) after the next election. Noting that the DS stand was "nothing new for the publi", Petrovic told reporters after the ceremony at the Faculty of Agriculture that the question about the possibility of such coalition should be put to the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and its deputy leader Dusan Bajatovic - "who came up with the idea in the first place". DS official rules out post-election deal with SNS "It is positive that the SNS has placed the EU at the top of the list of their political goals but they are not capable of leading Serbia into the EU and this is why DS will never close a coalition with them," Petrovic stated in Novi Sad on Monday. He also voiced his opinion that the Democrats "will win in the forthcoming elections". When asked whether he would be a candidate for next prime minister, Petrovic, who serves as agriculture minister in the current cabinet, said that the decision on the potential candidacy "will be made by party bodies after the elections which would be held early in May 2012, as envisaged in the Constitution and relevant laws". SPS deputy leader and Srbijagas Director General Dusan Bajatovic stated on Sunday that "the best solution for Serbia under the given circumstances could be embodied in the government that would be constituted after the elections by the DS and the SNS, with the Socialists (SPS) as a specific catalyst which would calm tensions between the two major partners".
